Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, April 2020

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) in April 2020, with the base year 2015 = 100.

The monthly inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices was (-0.3%) in April 2020.

The total harmonized consumer price index decreased to an average of (-0.3%) in April 2020, compared to March 2020. This is mainly explained by the decrease in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: vegetables (-1.0%); use of personal transport means (-9.5%); decrease in oil and gasoline prices, with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.7%) on the HICP.

Meanwhile, price increases are observed in subgroups: bread and cereals (0.4%); meat (0.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.8%); fruits (6.5%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (0.7%); alcoholic beverages (1.0%); medical products, apparatus and equipment (1.4%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.4 percent on the HICP.

Meanwhile, changes in the prices of products and services in some subgroups did not have any impact on the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in April 2020 compared to April 2019 was 0.3%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices was higher by 0.3% in April 2020, compared to April 2019. This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices in this period in COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals. (2.1%); meat (2.7%); milk, cheese and eggs (6.0%); oils and fats (2.1%); fruits (15.9%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (4.2%); various food products, salts, spices, etc., (3.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (8.6%); water, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (2.3%); alcoholic beverages (1.5%); various utensils and kitchen utensils (1.7%); goods and services for the usual maintenance of the household (2.0%); medical products, apparatus and equipment (5.0%); outpatient services (7.3%); purchase of vehicles (1.6%); hotel services (2.6%); insurance (19.2%); raising of vehicle insurance prices, with a common impact of these subgroups by 2.0 percent on the HICP.

Whereas, the decrease of prices is observed in the subgroups: vegetables (-15.6%); use of personal transport means (-16.0%); decrease of oil and gasoline prices, with a common impact of these subgroups by (-1.7 percent) on the HICP.

Changes in the prices of products and services in some subgroups did not have any impact on the HICP.
