The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS), respectively the Department of Social Statistics (DSS), has released annual data for Deaths in 2021. These data are published based on the administrative sources.

The source of data is the Kosovo Civil Registration Agency, i.e. the Civil Status Offices.

According to the legal provisions on managing of basic registers books for Deaths, cases are mandatory to be registered in the above-mentioned registers, in the place where the event took place, regardless of the fact that the persons related to the event have permanent residence in that place or anywhere else.

The data published in this report represent all cases of deaths that occurred during 2021.

In 2021, 14900 deaths were registered (inside and outside Kosovo). Of these registered deaths, 13019 occurred in Kosovo, of which 7020 or 53.9% of deaths were male and 5999 or 46.12% of deaths were female.

KAS will continue to collect data through special statistical questionnaires, for Deaths DEM-2, during this calendar year, as before. Data collection continues on a monthly basis and will serve to create the database as well as compare it with administrative data.

On the occasion of using this information published in these reports, the Department of Social Statistics of KAS, will accept suggestions, proposals which will help to enrich the contents of these reports in the future.
