Birth, Death, Marriage and Divorce Statistics, February 2021

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published preliminary data on a monthly basis for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Divorces in February 2021. These data are published based on administrative data.

According to the legal provisions on managing of basic registers books for Births, Deaths and Marriages, and Divorces, the cases are mandatory to be registered in the above-mentioned registers, in the place where the event took place, regardless of the fact that the persons related to the event have permanent residence in that place or anywhere else.

In February 2021, a total of 2,673 births were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), where compared to January 2021 there is an increase by 0.3%. Of these births recorded in February, 1,382 births were male and 1,291 were female.

Whereas, a total of 1,509 deaths were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), and compared the February to January 2021 there is a decrease by (-11.96%). Of the registered deaths, 840 of cases are male and 669 cases are female.

In February 2021, a total of 1,593 marriages were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), where compared to January there is a decrease in the number of married couples by (-17.3%).

However, comparing the number of divorces in February with January 2021, it turns out that there is a decrease by (-23.6%). A total of 123 cases of divorced couples were registered

KAS will continue to collect data through special statistical questionnaires, for Births DEM-1, Deaths DEM-2, Marriages DEM-3 and Divorces SHK-1, during this calendar year, as before. Data collection continues on a monthly basis and will serve to create the database as well as compare it with administrative data.
