The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released preliminary data on a monthly basis for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Divorces in December 2021.

These data are published based on administrative data.

According to the legal provisions on managing of basic registers books for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Divorces, cases are mandatory to be registered in the above-mentioned registers, in the place where the event took place, regardless of the fact that the persons related to the event have permanent residence in that place or anywhere else.

In the month of December 2021, 2 200 births were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), where compared to the month of November 2021 there is an increase in the number of births by 5.2%. Of these births recorded in December, 1 140 of birth cases were male and 1 060 were female.

Whereas, a total of 1 079 deaths were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), where compared to the month of November 2021 there is an increase in the number of deaths by 23.9%. Of the registered deaths, 551 cases are male and 528 cases are female.

In the month of December 2021, a total of 1 810 marriages were registered (inside and outside Kosovo), where compared to the month of November 2021 there is an increase in the number of married couples by 32.5%.

Comparing the number of divorces in the month of December 2021 with November 2021, it turns out that there is an increase by 23.1%. A total of 192 cases of divorced couples have been registered in this month.

KAS will continue to collect data through special statistical questionnaires: for Births DEM-1, Deaths DEM-2, Marriages DEM-3, and Divorces SHK-1, during this calendar year, as before. Data collection continues on a monthly basis and will serve to create the database as well as compare it with administrative data.
