Eurostat visit to Kosovo

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics has been visited by the representatives of Eurostat, headed by Mr. Pieter Everaers, Director of Directorate A - Cooperation in the European Statistical System; International Cooperation; Sources in DG Eurostat, European Commission. The companions of Mr. Everaers were Mr. Torbioern Carlquist, DG ESTAT Unit A3, Eurostat Coordinator for Albania and Macedonia, and Mr. Simen Saeterdal, DG ESTAT, Unit A3, Eurostat Coordinator for Kosovo.

During the visit, Eurostat has discussed with high level representatives on specific issues, especially regarding the recommendations of the EU Progress Report on Kosovo and raising awareness on the importance of official statistics within the European Integration process.

During this visit, Eurostat had meetings with Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Enver Hoxhaj, with the Commission for Public Administration in the Kosovo Assembly, and with the EU Office in Kosovo, where they discussed the situation of the Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) in general and with particular emphasis on the changes in the Law on Official Statistics and the provision of sufficient resources for KAS.

Mr. Everaers has collaborated with the Kosovo Agency of Statistics since 2005, where he has made an extraordinary contribution to KAS and the Statistical System of Kosovo in general.

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics is very grateful to Mr. Everaers for the contribution and support provided to Kosovo, to the KAS and its staff, as during his missions in Kosovo, the correct reporting on Kosovo in Eurostat, as well as during the support provided to KAS staff in their long-term training, or in other official visits to Eurostat.

The development and further advancement of the Statistical System of Kosovo is part of the contribution of Mr. Everaers.

Eurostat is the main partner of the National Statistical Institutes in the Western Balkans by supporting the development of the National Statistical Institutes and the entire National Statistical System.
