Import Price Index, Q2 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics has published the Import Price Index (IMPI) in the second quarter of 2019 (Q2 2019).

The total import price index in Kosovo increased by 1.3% in Q2 2019, compared to Q1 2019. The highest price increases by sectors were: leather and articles thereof by 8.9%; plant products by 8.4%; mineral products by 4.5%; live animals and animal products by 2.6%; various manufactured articles by 2.2%; means of transport by 1.3%; plastics, rubber and articles thereof by 1.2%; articles of stone, mortar, ceramics and glass products by 1.2%; machinery and electrical equipment by 0.9%; chemical industry products by 0.5%; base metals and articles thereof by 0.2%; prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco by 0.1%; and edible oils by 0.1%.

The increase was counteracted mainly by price decrease by sectors of: optical, photographic, measuring, material and musical instruments, and clock mechanisms (-20.0%); textiles and articles thereof (-3.3%); paper and articles thereof (-1.3%); wood and articles thereof (-0.4%) and footwear (-0.3%).

Meanwhile, compared the Q2 2019 to Q2 2018, import prices increased to an average of 3.9%. The biggest increases by sector were: leather and articles thereof by 26.8%; mineral products by 19.1%; live animals and animal products by 12.5%; plant products by 10.9%; various manufactured articles  by 8.5%; footwear for 5.6%; plastics, rubber and articles thereof by 4.0%; chemical industry products by 2.5  articles of stone, mortar, ceramic and glass products  by 2.3%; base metals and articles thereof by 1.2%; means of transport by 1.1%; prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco  by 0.5%; paper and articles thereof by 0.5%; and wood and articles thereof by 0.2%.

The increase was counteracted mainly by price decrease by sectors of: optical, photographic, measuring, medical and musical instruments and clock mechanisms (-14.3%); textiles and articles thereof (-11.8%); machinery and electrical equipment for (-2.5%) and edible oils for (-1.9%).
