Import Price Index (IPI), Q4 2016

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has released "Import Price Index (IPI)” for the fourth quarter (Q4) 2016.

The overall price index for imports in Kosovo increased by 2.0% in Q4 2016 compared to Q3 2016.

Import prices in Kosovo increased by an average of 2.0% in Q4 2016 compared to Q3 2016. The largest increases in prices by sectors were: mineral products (9.0%); optical, photographic, measuring and medical instruments, as well as clock mechanisms (3.7%); leather and articles thereof (3.6%); articles of stone, plaster, ceramic products and glass (3.2%); wood and articles thereof (2.5%); vegetable products (2.4%); miscellaneous manufactured articles (2.1%); plastics, rubber and articles thereof (1.8%); live animals and animal products (1.3%); machinery and electrical equipment (0.8%); edible oil (0.5%); paper and articles thereof (0.4%); as well as prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (0.1%).

The increase was counteracted mainly by decreases by sectors: base metals and articles thereof (-0.8%); means of transportation (-0.8%); footwear (-0.8%); textile and articles thereof (-0.5%); and products of chemical industry (-0.1%).

However, compared Q4 2015 with Q4 2016 import prices increased by an average of 1.0%. The largest increases by sectors were: leather and articles thereof (4.6%); mineral products (4.3%); optical, photographic, measuring and medical instruments, as well as clock mechanisms (3.7%); wood and articles thereof (2.5%); live animals and their products (2.3%); miscellaneous manufactured articles (2.3%); machinery and electrical equipment (1.5%); products of chemical industry (1.2%); prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco (1.0%); articles of stone, plaster, ceramic products and glass (0.9%); paper and articles thereof (0.2%); and means of transportation (0.1%).

The increase was counteracted mainly by decrease in prices by sectors: textile and articles thereof (-5.0%); base metals and articles of base metals (-2.5%); footwear (-2.2%); edible oil (-0.8%); plastics, rubber and articles thereof (-0.7%) and vegetable products (-0.3%).
