Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, October 2019

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the “Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices” (HICP) in October 2019, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices remained unchanged at 0.0% in October 2019, compared to September 2019.

Despite the unchanged in the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in October 2018 compared to September 2019, some changes in the prices of goods and services were observed in the COICOP groups and subgroups. Price increase was observed in the following subgroups: vegetables (0.6%); water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (0.7%); electricity, gas and other fuels (0.8%) - (increase of price of firewood); purchase of vehicles (2.3%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.3 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in prices in COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-1.1%); fruits (-7.4%); transport services (-2.4%) - (decrease of air transport ticket prices), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.3%) in the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in October 2019 with October 2018 was 2.2%.

This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices during this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (11.8%); meat (2.0%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.6%); oils and fats (3.1%); fruits (3.8%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (2.7%); coffee, tea and cocoa (10.3%); water, soft drinks, fruit juices and vegetables (1.0%); tobacco (2.7%); electricity, gas and other fuels (0.9%) - (increase of price of firewood), furniture, carpets and other floor coverings (1.2%); home appliances (1.6%); glassware, cutlery and kitchen utensils (4.4%); goods and services for routine household maintenance (2.9%); outpatient services (1.7%); purchase of vehicles (3.7%); telephone and fax services (0.9%); housing services (4.6%); personal items (3.7%), with a combined impact of these subgroups by 2.5 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: vegetables (-4.5%); use of personal transport means (-1.4%) - (decrease of oil and gasoline prices); transport services (-3.3%) - (decrease of air transport ticket prices),); audio-visual, photographic information processing equipment (-3.1%), with a common influence of these subgroups by (-0.3%) in the HICP.
