Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, June 2018

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for June 2018.

Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.1% in June 2018, compared with May 2018. This is mainly explained by the increase of the consumer prices in the subgroups of COICOP: fruits (4.6 %); electricity, gas and other fuels (1.2%) - (increase in the price of firewood); use of personal transport means (2.9%) - (increase of prices of petroleum and gasoline) with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.4 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in consumer prices in the sub-groups of COICOP: bread and cereals (-0.5%); vegetables (-5.6%), with a common impact by (-0.3 percent) in the HICP.

Inflation rate measured in June 2018 with June 2017 was 0.8%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.8% in June 2018 compared with June 2017. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in this period to the subgroups of COICOP: bread and cereals (1.5%); meat (1.1%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.8%); vegetables (9.0%); alcoholic beverages (2.3%); tobacco (3.2%); use of personal transport means (8.4%) - (increase of prices of petroleum and gasoline); transport services (2.5%) - (increase of plane ticket price), with a common impact of these subgroups by 1.5 percent in the HICP.

The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in the subgroups of COICOP: fruits (-3.4%); sugar and cakes (-8.4%); mineral water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (-1.5%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-7.0%); audio-visual, photographic information processing equipment (-5.2%), with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.7 percent) in the HICP.
