Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, July 2018

The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Price Index" (HICP) for July 2018.

Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100

Monthly inflation measured in July 2018 from the harmonized index of consumer prices was 0.2%, while annual inflation was 1.2%.

The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.2% in July 2018 compared with June 2018. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: meat (1.1%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.4%); use of personal transport means (0.8%) - (increase in oil and petrol prices); transport services (7.2%) - (increase of airline ticket price) with a common impact of these subgroups by 0.5 percent in the HICP.

The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: fruits (-2.5%); vegetables (-5.1%) with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.3%) in the HICP.

Meanwhile, the total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 1.2% in July 2018 compared to July 2017. This is mainly explained by the increase in the consumer prices in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (1.4%); meat (2.3%); milk, cheese and eggs (4.7%); vegetables (12.2%); tobacco (3.9%); use of personal transport means (9.8%) - (increase in oil and petrol prices); hotel services (2.3%) with a common impact of these subgroups by 1.9 percent in the HICP.

The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: sugar and cakes (-8.1%); clothing (-1.4%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-7.0%); household appliances (-2.5%); mobile phone accessories (-8.4%); audio-visual and photographic equipment for information processing (-4.6%), with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.7) percent in the HICP.
