Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), September 2017
Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for September 2017.
Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100
The total harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.1% in September 2017 compared to August 2017. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in the COICOP sub-groups: Milk, cheese and eggs (0.9%); Vegetables (5.5%); Gas and other fuels (1.4%), with a common impact of these subgroups of 0.4 percent in the HICP.
The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in some COICOP subgroups, with a common impact of (-0.3%) in the HICP.
The inflation rate measured in September 2017 with September 2016 was 1.7%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 1.7% in September 2017 compared to September 2016. This is mainly explained by some price changes of items and services to the COICOP groups and subgroups. Growth of consumer prices is observed in subgroups: Bread and cereals (1.0%); Meat (1.1%); Oils and fat (3.5%); Fruits (6.0%); Sugar and cakes (4.5%); Coffee, tea and cocoa (9.5%); Tobacco (7.4%); Footwear (4.0%); Electricity, gas and other fuels (17.1%) - (increase of price of electricity in September 2017 by 27.6%, compared to summer tariffs of September 2016); Use of personal transport means (3.1%) - (increase in oil and petrol prices) with a common impact of these subgroups of 2.1% in the HICP.
The rise was neutralized mainly by the fall in prices in this period to the subgroups: Milk, cheese and eggs (-1.4%); Vehicle purchase (-1.7%); Telephone and telefax equipment (-8.4%); Audio-visual and photographic equipment for information processing (-6.5%) with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.4%) in the HICP.
Explanation for data users
The implementation of new retail electricity tariffs for household customers from 1 April, 2017 approved by the Energy Regulatory Office of the Republic of Kosovo, dated 31 March, 2017, is the cause of the change in the price of electricity each month, calculated by the Kosovo Electricity Supply Company (KES/CO).
