Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), November 2017
Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for November 2017.
Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100
The total harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.1% in November 2017 compared to October 2017. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: vegetables (2.0% ); electricity, gas and other fuels (0.7%) - (increase in the price of wood for heating by 4.4%), with a common impact of these subgroups of 0.2% in the HICP.
The increase was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices of the fruit subgroup (-4.0%) with an impact of 0.1% in the HICP.
The inflation rate measured in November 2017 with November 2016 was 0.9%.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 0.9% in November 2017, compared with November 2016. This is mainly explained by some price changes of articles and services to COICOP's groups and sub-groups. Growth of consumer prices is observed in subgroups: bread and cereals (2.9%); meat (0.5%); milk, cheese and eggs (1.2%); oils and fats (3.6%); fruits (12.8%); coffee, tea and cocoa (8.4%); mineral water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (1.2%); tobacco (6.0%); use of personal transport means (2.4%) - (increase in oil and petrol prices) with a common impact of these subgroups of 1.3% in the HICP.
The rise was counteracted mainly by falling prices in the subgroups: electricity, gas and other fuels (-3.0%) - (the fall in electricity prices in November 2017 to (-10.6%), compared with the winter tariffs of November 2016); vehicle purchase (-1.6%); telephone and fax equipment (-8.8%); audio-visual, photographic information processing equipment (-6.5%); with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.4%) in the HICP.
Explanation for data users
The implementation of new retail electricity tariffs for household customers from April 1, 2017 approved by the Energy Regulatory Office of the Republic of Kosovo, dated March 31, 2017, is the cause of the change in the price of electricity each month, calculated by the Kosovo Electricity Supply Company (KES/CO).
