Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), January 2017

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published "the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for January 2017.

Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100.

Overall harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.8% in January 2017 compared with December 2016. Increased consumer price index are noticed to COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (1.5%); fruits (3.1%); vegetables (14.1%); electricity, gas and other fuels (2.1%) - (rising price of wood and pellet for heating), use of means for personal transport (1.7%) - (rising price of oil and petrol) with a common impact of these subgroups of 0.8 percent in the HICP.

The inflation rate in the month of January 2017 with January 2016 was 1.7%.

Overall harmonized index of consumer prices is higher for 1.7% in January 2017 compared to January 2016. In this period there are some changes in prices of items and services of COICOP groups and subgroups. Increased consumer price index are noticed to COICOP subgroups: meat (0.9%); milk, cheese and eggs (6.7%); sugar and sweets (8.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (5.1%); tobacco (4.8%); clothing (3.0%); electricity, gas and other fuels (3.4%) - (raising price of wood and pellet for heating), use of means for personal transport (10.3%) - (raising price of oil and petrol), transportation services ( 4.9%) - (raising price of plane tickets) with a common impact of these subgroups of 2.0 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by decreases in this period to COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (-1.3%); vegetables (-2.1%); audio-visual, photographic and information processing equipment (-1.2%), with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.3%) in the HICP.
