Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), February 2018
The Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for February 2018.
The harmonized index of consumer prices, from January 2016, is published with the base year 2015 = 100.
The total harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.3% in February 2018 compared to January 2018. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: meat (0.8%); fruits (4.1%); vegetables (4.3%); use of personal transport means (0.6%), with a common impact of these subgroups for 0.4% in the HICP.
The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in consumer prices in the subgroup of: milk, cheese and eggs (-1.1%) with an impact of (-0.1%) in the HICP.
Inflation rate, measured in February 2018 with February 2017, was 0.0%.
Despite the non-change in February 2018 with the February 2017 of the total harmonized index of consumer prices, there were some price changes of items and services in the COICOP groups and subgroups during this period. Price increases are observed in the subgroups: bread and cereals (2.5%); meat (1.5%); oils and fat (2.7%); fruits (12.5%); coffee, tea and cocoa (4.6%); tobacco (3.5%); transport services (2.2%) - (plane ticket price increase) with a common impact of these subgroups of 1.0% in the HICP.
The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in prices in this period to the subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-4.1%); vegetables (-2.4%); sugar and cakes (-7.4%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-9.4%) - (decrease of electricity price in February 2018 by (-15.4%) compared with winter tariffs of February 2017); audio-visual, photographic and information processing equipment (-7.0%), with a common impact of these subgroups for (-1.0%) in the HICP.
Explanation for data users
The implementation of new retail electricity tariffs for household consumers from April 1, 2017 approved by the Energy Regulatory Office of the Republic of Kosovo on March 31, 2017 is the cause of the change in the price of electricity every month, calculated by the Kosovo Electricity Supply Company (KES / CO).
