Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), August 2016

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published "the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for August 2016.

Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with base year 2015 = 100.

Overall harmonized index of consumer prices in the country is higher by 0.2% in August 2016 compared with July 2016. Higher prices were observed to COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (5.3%); electricity, gas and other fuels (0.9%) - (raising price of wood for heating) with a common impact of these subgroups of 0.4% in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by decreases of subgroups: fruit (-4.4%) and vegetables (-1.9%), with a common impact of these subgroups of (-0.2%) in the HICP.

The inflation rate in the month of August 2016 with August 2015 was 0.0%.

Despite not changing in August 2016 of the harmonized index of consumer prices, compared with August 2015, in this period were observed some changes in prices of items and services of COICOP groups and subgroups. Higher prices were observed to subgroups: meat (0.9%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.3%); sugar and sweets (9.2%); water, beverages, juices from fruits and vegetables (2.2%); alcoholic beverages (3.7%); tobacco (5.3%); clothing (3.4%); furnishings and equipment, carpets and other floor carpets (2.3%); products and medical equipment (3.1%); purchase of vehicles (1.5%); transport services (9.3%) - (rising price of plane tickets) with a common impact of these subgroups of 1.4% in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by decreases in this period of subgroups: bread and cereals (-4.6%); fruits (-10.3%); vegetables (-5.5%); water supply and various services related to residence (-6.7%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-4.5%) - (escalation of VAT by 8.0% from September 2015 to bread and cereals, water and electricity which contributed to the decline in HICP in a measure of -0.7% in this period); use of personal transport means (-5.3%) - (decline in the price of oil and petrol), with a common impact of these subgroups of (-1.4%) in the HICP.
