Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), April 2017
Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published the "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices" (HICP) for the month of April 2017.
Since January 2016, the harmonized index of consumer prices is published with the base year 2015 = 100
The overall harmonized index of consumer prices in the country dropped to an average of (-0.3%) in April 2017 compared to March 2017. This is mainly explained by the fall in consumer prices in COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (-1.8%); electricity, gas and other fuels (-7.4%). The application of new retail electricity tariffs for household customers from April 1, 2017 approved by the Energy Regulatory Office of the Republic of Kosovo, is the cause of the fall in the price of electricity in April 2017 compared with March 2017, on an average of -11.3%, with a common impact of these subgroups (-0.4%) in the HICP.
The decline was largely counteracted by rose of the consumer prices in the fruit subgroup for (8.4%) with an impact of 0.1% in the HICP.
The inflation rate measured in April 2017 with April 2016 was 2.2%.
The overall harmonized index of consumer prices is higher by 2.2% in April 2017 compared with April 2016. This is mainly explained by some price changes of articles and services in the COICOP groups and sub-groups. Growth of consumer prices is observed in subgroups: meat (1.2%); milk, cheese and eggs (3.3%); fruit (7.9%); sugar and cakes (8.1%); coffee, tea and cocoa (6.9%); mineral water, soft drinks, juices from fruits and vegetables (1.2%); tobacco (5.4%); electricity, gas and other fuels (15.6%) - (increase of electricity price in April 2017 by 24.0% compared to summer tariffs of April 2016), use of personal transport means (9.5% ) - (increase in oil and petrol prices) with a common impact of these subgroups of 2.4% in the HICP.
The rise was counteracted mainly by the fall in prices during this period in the subgroups: vehicle purchase (-1.2%); audio-visual and photographic equipment for information processing (-5.5%), with a common impact of these sub-groups (-0.2%) in the HICP.
