Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, August 2019

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) has published “Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices” (HICP) in August 2019, with the base year 2015 = 100.

Monthly inflation measured by the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in August 2019 was 0.5%.

The total Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices increased by 0.5% in August 2019 compared to July 2019. This was mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: milk, cheese and eggs (5.4%); coffee, tea and cocoa (3.7%); goods and services for household maintenance (2.6%); transport services (3.5%) - (increase of air transport ticket prices) with a combined impact of these subgroups by 0.6 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroup: vegetables (-2.6%), with an impact of this subgroup by (-0.1%) in the HICP.

The annual inflation rate measured in August 2019, with August 2018, was 2.7%. This is mainly explained by the rise in consumer prices during this period in the COICOP subgroups: bread and cereals (14.0%); meat (4.1%); milk, cheese and eggs (2.8%); oils and fats (1.4%); sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and cakes (1.6%); food products, salt, spices etc. (3.2%); coffee, tea and cocoa (9.8%); alcoholic beverages (1.1%); tobacco (3.0%); clothing (1.0%); footwear (2.7%); glass, cutlery and kitchen utensils (2.6%); home and garden tools and supplies (1.6%); goods and services for household maintenance (3.4%); purchase of vehicles (1.2%); organized trips or holidays (8.7%); personal care (1.3%); personal items (3.2%), with a common impact of these subgroups by 2.9 percent in the HICP.

The increase was counteracted mainly by the decrease in consumer prices in the COICOP subgroups: fruit (-3.7%); transport services (-5.0%) - (decrease of air transport ticket prices) with a common impact of these subgroups by (-0.2%) in the HICP.
